David Lucas, author and illustrator, told the children that writing a story is about choosing characters, loving them but also making sure that dreadful things are going to happen to them until… there is a twist in the story and all is well again! |

Ed Vere’s characters are perfect examples of “literature providing a living through”: Will Mr. Big ever manage to make friends? Will everybody realise that a true friend can come in any shape or size? Grumpy Frog loves winning but what happens when he doesn't win? Will he learn about compromise and tolerance, friendship and the power of saying sorry? Thank you Mr. Vere for a truly inspiring visit and for your wonderful books!
Nick Sharratt - March 2014
Nick Sharratt, author-illustrator extraordinaire, was grandly received by a big children's committee with balloons and welcoming posters. We are sure your books will continue to be in great demand to be borrowed from the library. Thank you for a wonderful visit! Have a look at the photos and video clips below! |
Steve Jenkins -
April 2013
Steve Jenkins met all the Anglophone classes from grade 1 to 4, presented his books and then asked the children to do their own collage.
Steve Jenkins is known for his ability to combine his unique artwork with his fascination with the natural world. As he noted in his acceptance speech for the prestigious Boston Globe/Horn Book Award for Nonfiction: "In my books, I try to present straightforward information in a context that makes sense to children. Children don't need anyone to give them a sense of wonder; they already have that. But they do need a way to incorporate the various bits and pieces of knowledge they acquire into some logical picture of the world. For me, science provides the most elegant and satisfying way to construct this picture." Jenkins' eye for design and use of an unusual medium for books—paper collage—has garnered wide acclaim.
Thank you Mr. Jenkins for such an inspirational visit!

Sarah McIntyre -
May 2012
Sarah is a lovely person, full of energy and enthusiasm! She illustrated "You can't scare a princess" and "You can't eat a princess" that the children like so much! She is also the author/illustrator of "Vern and Lettuce", a comic book.
She came dressed as a pirate to present an assembly to all the Anglophone classes in grades 1 and 2, drew a very naughty pirate picture and worked on creating comics with grades 3 and 4. For this exercise, she had the children draw a character on the first panel of an A3 page folded in 4 and then pass it on to the next child till the 4 panels were completed. She calls the exercise a comic jam! It was all very inspirational! Thank you Sarah, you are a star!
Anne Crausaz -
March 2012
Anthony Browne -
November 2010
Anthony’s visit had been eagerly anticipated, and there was excitement in the air on the day he finally arrived! For months the children had prepared by working hard on various writing projects and art displays that were displayed all over the school. Buster Nose, Willy, Little Beauty and the 550 children of our primary school were all on hand to welcome Anthony.
Our school offers instruction in two languages (English and Fench), and we bought a large collection of his wonderful books in both languages. This made it possible for his visit to become an event involving the entire school.
And what a success it was!
Anthony gave four formal presentations during which he talked about his inspiration, his work and of course played the shape game. He also visited the classrooms and took time to look at the various books, stories, plays that children had made. He truly listened to the children, encouraged them and congratulated them in a way that made each and every one of them feel special.
Good children’s literature is extremely important to the development of young students’ minds and Anthony Browne’s books with their exceptionally beautiful, powerful and outstanding illustrations will continue to provide ample subjects of discussion for years to come !
A big thank you Anthony Browne for a truly wonderful visit !
Emily Gravett
- March 2009
A gorgeous ray of sunshine came to the library right at the end of March.
Her name is Emily Gravett and she is the amazing author/illustrator of lovely books. She is so talented that she won the Kate Greenaway award twice (an award for the best illustrations in a book for children): once for “Wolves” in 2005 and then for “Little Mouse’s Big Book of Fears” in 2008. When with us, she read her book “Monkey and me” to the children and then asked them to make another story on the same model while she drew the new characters on the board. What fun we had! Thank you Emily for a great time!
